International Women’s Day 2018
To celebrate International Women’s Day today (March 8th), we are putting the spotlight on some of the amazing women working in Mirror Media as they share with us what International Women’s Day means to them.
Their jobs couldn’t be more different on a day-to-day basis but this is the one day they come together to do one job – #PressForProgress – which is this year’s theme for International Women’s Day. This is a strong call to motivate and unite colleagues and friends to think, act and be gender inclusive.
We have 55 brilliantly talented women working across our offices in Belfast and Dublin, across a broad range of roles in editorial, advertising, marketing and comms. We are SO lucky to have them in our business as they continue to grow in their career and inspire those around them.
Joanne McGreevy, Managing Director
“The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #PressForProgress and what a progressive year the last 12 months have been. For me personally, International Women’s day is about recognising the contribution that women make across all aspects of life, and whether you are a stay at home mum or a busy working mother, it is about us feeling valued with the contribution we have made and can make in society.”

Emer Nugent, Creative Solutions Intern
“International Women’s Day for me is a day to celebrate what women have achieved to date, and to be proud of what women in the past fought for. It also gives me a sense of pride to be a woman in today’s society, as so many women are proving that we are just as equal as men every day.”

Cherith Andrews, Sales Director NI
“International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate and shine a light on achievements and successes of women all over the globe. Perhaps this year, the message is more poignant than ever, a day to celebrate progress from the past, accepting the challenges ahead, and looking to a positive future where gender equality is the norm.”

Paula Lenihan, Editor of RSVP Magazine
“International Women’s Day is time to look back on the achievements of the great women who went before us and paved our path, to take stock of where we are now and look to the future with optimism. A lot has happened recently to turn up the volume for women’s voices so we are being heard, but there is still some way to go and by supporting each other we can continue this journey together. Happy International Women’s Day to all.”

LesleyAnn Diffin, Business Comms Manager
“International Women’s Day is the one day of the year that allows everyone, no matter what your gender, to take a moment and appreciate who women are as mothers, as businesswomen, as friends, as women of vision. There is something so empowering about the movement for women’s right and that’s why it is so important to commemorate a day like International Women’s day.”
