'How I Got Here' business podcast...is here!

Business Comms

Belfast Live has launched a brand new podcast series examining the careers of influential figures in Northern Ireland.

Top business journalist David Elliott is our host and his eclectic line-up of guests goes a little something like: munch on a Boojum but reserve that table at James Street South, before heading to the Limelight or Ulster Hall for a gig (or maybe the Boojum comes after the gig!) Next thing you know, after attending a business event at the ICC Waterfront and meeting lots of industry peers there, you're heading to an Ulster Rugby match next Friday night (hospitality of course!)

In keeping with the theme, the 'How I Got Here' elevator pitch would be:

How I Got Here will delve behind the CVs of its guests in order to chart the journey those individuals have had in their working life.

Each episode features in-depth conversations around how people started out and their journey to where they are today.

With more than 17 years' experience in the industry including contributions to the Wall Street Journal and CNBC - and a weekly business column in our paper, the Daily Mirror - David Elliott is the man for the job.

In each episode, David will be joined by a local business person who will tell of the highs (and possibly lows) of their journey to success, and in doing so, they will provide practical and impartial advice and guidance from what they have learnt along the way.

In the first series, CEO of Boojum, David Maxwell, will explain how he built one of Ireland's most successful restaurant chains and Ulster Rugby CEO Jon Petrie tells how he made the transition from the pitch to the boardroom.

Alan Simms, founder of Shine Productions, leading chef and restaurateur Niall McKenna, Oonagh O'Reilly, sales and marketing director at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall, and Studio Souk owner and busy mum Linzi Rooney will complete an exciting first run.

Belfast Live editor Chris Sherrard said: "This is a series we've been keen to do pretty much from when we launched the site nearly five years ago.

"We have waited until the time was right and we had built our audience and reach across various platforms. As journalists we are inherently nosy and always love to know how people climb the career ladder to where they are. We know from speaking to our audience that they share that curiosity which is why we believe they will love this podcast series.

"How I Got Here promises to be a great addition to our suite of podcasts which have touched on parenting and local football with great penetration. The calibre of the guests we will feature on this series makes for a tremendous listen and a great way to spend a commute or have on while pottering about the house."

David added: "Most people's careers zigzag and are full of unexpected moves and failures that lead to something better.

"With that assertion in mind, Belfast Live's new career podcast has been created to tell the stories of some of the best people in local business - across different industries - whose roles, jobs and risk-taking got them to where they are today."

First up, it's restaurateur Niall McKenna and his episode is available to listen to now via any of these platforms: Spotify, iTunes, Google Podcasts & TuneIn. And make sure you subscribe for your weekly fix.
