Jane Lundon: "Lots of people & situations inspire me, but ultimately, you have to inspire yourself."
The Online Editor of RSVP on her favourite childhood memory, who her fantasy dinner guest would be and her greatest achievement to date.
What’s your favourite childhood memory?
Spending our summers at Traught beach, Kinvara in the West Of Ireland. My family had a caravan parked there, it was used to make tea, as a changing room and to sit in when it rained, which was a lot! Everyone that knew us used it, the key was under a stone so it was always busy. We never stayed the night as we lived approximately nine miles away. They were great times.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An actress, always. I did the Bachelor of Acting studies in Trinity College, which was in association with the Abbey Theatre for three years after school, it subsequently became The Lir. After two years semi treading the boards but mainly waitressing, I did a Masters in Journalism and never looked back. The lifestyle wasn’t for me, I liked being employed. I've no regrets.
Song you last listened to?
Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart
Someone you might be starstruck to meet?
Sonia O’Sullivan. She was massive in my house in the 90s, I interviewed her once over the phone. I told her I was a massive fan. She didn’t suggest we meet!!!! Also, Tom Hardy, I don’t have to give a reason.
If you could change one thing, what would it be?
The clocks going back! Massive pain in my world, I don’t like the dark evenings and my one-year-old now gets up at 5.30am as opposed to 6.30am. (Along with the healthcare system, poverty, the housing crisis etc)
What do you consider your greatest achievement to date?
Cliche and all as it sounds but my two daughters, Jessica and Kate. They will always be my greatest achievement no matter what happens. Did I mention I ran a marathon once?
If you won the lottery, what would you spend it on?
I would buy a bigger house, room for a pony type of gaff, although I know I am lucky to have a home at the moment. I would sort my mates and family out with homes and then give plenty to charity, I would try to go directly to the source. I wouldn’t be overly flash with it but I would always pay for dinner.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Blue cheese, McCambridges crackers, red wine and O’Donnells crisps - all at the same time.
Name a restaurant that you love
Etto on Merrion Row.
How do you switch off from work?
I run. I love running for my head.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
I can’t pick an era. In my own life, my teenage years, I loved secondary school, the dreams and aspirations without the worries and reality of life getting in the way. I don’t think we realised how free our minds were.
Who would your fantasy dinner guest be and why?
At the moment, Imelda May. She can sing, recite poetry, has great stories and seems sound. She could bring Olivia Colman and we would all have great gas.
Who makes you laugh the most?
Comedian - Joanne McNally. Friend - Emma Breen, she will love this, but to be fair I laugh solidly when out with my pals, they are a funny bunch.
What is top of your bucket list?
To interview Sinead O’Connor. She fascinates me and has genius talent. I would also like to interview Micheal D Higgins and Daniel Day-Lewis. When my girls are older we will visit South America, a place I never got to.
Who or what inspires you the most?
Lots of people and situations inspire me, but ultimately, you have to inspire yourself. It is important to make yourself proud and be content with your work and the life you choose for yourself. Then, everyone around you will be happy.
